Antoni Salvà Casanovas

Degree in medicine and surgery from the University of Barcelona (1982) Diplome d'Université. Médicine geriatrique and Gerontology (1992) and National Capacité de Médecine (Gerontology) (1992) for the Faculty of Medicine, University of Montpellier. Master of Clinical Gerontology at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (1999). Specialization in geriatrics (1999)

He was director of the Institut de l'Envelliment of the UAB from 2003 until October 2014, director of the Fundació Josep Laporte from May 2012 until October 2014 and director of the Fundació Dr. Robert from June 2013 until October 2014. Since November 2014 he is Director of the Fundació Salut i Envelliment of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. This foundation is the result of merging the three foundations above.

He performed his residency in Internal Medicine at the Mataró Hospital (1984-1988) and later worked in Internal Medicine and Geriatrics at the same hospital and at the Centre Sociosanitari Cabanellas belonging to the Maresme Health Consortium (1989 -1999 ). During these years he worked in its various units and participated in the commissioning of the units of convalescence, Palliative Care, day hospital for Alzheimer, the UFISS and geriatric outpatients.

From 1999 until 2003 he worked at the Catalan Health Service, where he was director of "Vida als anys" programme and chief of the division of geriatric care. During these years he promoted the development plan of health resources for the period 2000-2005 and recognition of the 4 lines of activity of the social services: Geriatrics, Palliative Care Alzehimer disease and other dementias and Neurodegenerative occurring with disabilities. Also in this period teams outpatient comprehensive geriatric assessment, palliative care or cognitive impairment (EAIAs) were created and adopted regulations in force today, on the authorization of health resources and quality criteria.

He has been co-director of the Pla Director Sociosanitari (Social and Health Care Plan) (2004-2007) and Chairman of the Advisory Council of Social Health Master Plan Sociosanitario Health Department (2007-2010 and 2012 -...). Since June 2014 he is member of the advisory board of the Interdepartmental Plan and Health Care and Social Interaction (PIAISS). He is vice president of the board of the Parc Sanitari Pere Virgili (2012 -...). He is a member of the board of Amics de la Gent Gran. (2009 -...). He is also a member of the technical advisory committee of Fundació MUTUAM-Conviure.

His research areas are divided into three fields:
a) The study of different syndromes and geriatric problems such as malnutrition, falls or cognitive impairment. Particularly worked on the design and validation of assessment instruments like Mini Nutritional Assessment Short Form (MNA-SF) or Mini Falls Assessment & Intervention (MFAI). He participated in the design and validation of the assessment instrument for dependent people in Spain. He is currently involved in projects about fall prevention, frailty, sarcopenia, among others.
b) The organization of services for older people and particularly social services. Policies and models of care for the elderly and people with cognitive impairment.
c) The promotion of active and healthy aging. He has participated in projects of health promotion and also in the design of programs to prevent disability.

He has developed a teaching in graduate programs. He is currently module coordinator and Professor of the Clinical Gerontology Master at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona.

He has published over 100 articles and / or book chapters as well as multiple documents in his different fields of activity.

He has been vice president of the Catalan-Balearic Society of Geriatrics and Gerontology (1996-2001). He is a member of the falls group of the Sociedad Española de Geriatría y Gerontología and of the Observatorio of sarcopenia of SEGG. He is also member of the group on nutrition and cognitive functions EUGMS. He has participated in various panels and "tasks force" international with whom he has published several consensus documents.

He has also been editor in chief of the Spanish Journal of Geriatrics and Gerontology (2004-2007). He is director of "El Año Gerontológico" and member, among others, of the editorial board of the "Revista Española de Geratría y Gerontología", "Research and Practice in Alzheimer Disease", "Journal of Nutrition Health and Aging" and "Frailty" .

Laura Coll i Planas
Research in Health and Ageing

Laura Coll-Planas has a medicine degree by the University of Barcelona, and PhD in public health by the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. Her thesis was titled "Loneliness, social support and participation in elderly from a health perspective". After seven years in Germany combining clinica practice and research in the field of geriatrics, she joined the Institut de l'Envelliment de la UAB, currently Fundació Salut i Envelliment UAB, where she has participated, coordinated and directed european and regional projects on ageing.

Her passion in research is complex interventions in and with elderly, from a bio-psychosocial perspective, combining cuantitative and cualitative methodologies. Currently, besides being one of the principal investigators of the Aequalis project , she is the scientific coordinator of the Sitless project, funded in the framework of the Horizon 2020 programme of the European Commission

Laura Fernández Maldonado
Area of Citizens and Patients - Area of Knowledge Management

Degree in Library Science by the University of Barcelona (1999), Graduated by the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (2004). In 2007 she obtained the Diploma of Advanced Studies in the doctorate programme of Sociology of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. She has conducted postgraduate studies in qualitative research (UAB). From 2008 she has the Chronic Disease Self-Management Program Master Training certification by the Stanford University.

In 2000 she joined the Fundació Josep Laporte, where she works as responsible for projects. She has carried several studies in fields such as a health literacy, women's health and chronic diseases (ADHD, pulmonary disease, multiple sclerosis), etc. From 2004 to 2010 she has managed EC-funded projects and international grants. She also offers education to patients and health professionals, with programmes such as Expert Patient or Tutor Patient.

Toni Rivero
Area of Consultancy and Ageing Projects

Born in Barcelona in 1972, graduate in economics by the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona in 1996. Since 1997 until 2003, he centered his professional action in the field of the local development policies. Highlights of this period are his works for the Cirem Foundation about new employment lines, with several projects in Catalonia and the rest of Spain, and also collaborations with european projects.

Part of this actions have been centered in the analysis and promotion of home care services in local environments, including the analysis of demand and supply, as well design and deployment of public/private promotion activities of these services. In particular he has participated in the design of several experiences of service-voucher systems (Sabadell, Mataró) and the creation of home care services promotion agencies (Fundación Domicilia, Jerez). The interest in the development of home care services, brought him to center his activity around aging. Finally, since his incorporation to the Aging Institute, in 2003, he has worked mainly in studies about long term care and care for the disabled. He has been the coordinator and writer of the studies: Anuari de l'Envelliment. Catalunya 2004 and Estudio del modelo de atención a las personas mayores con dependencia en España.

Sergi Blancafort Alias
Responsible for Patient education

Doctor in Sociology by the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (2012) and Graduated in Biology by the Universitat de Barcelona (1997). He has conducted postgraduate studies in the management of education (Universitat de Barcelona) and management of non-profit associations (Universitat Ramon Llull). Since 2008 he has the Chronic Disease Self-Management Program Master Training certification by the Stanford University.

Between 1997 and 2004 he worked in the pharmaceutical industry as responsible for the design of training programmes aimed at clinical research professionals. Between 2004 and 2007 he was director of the Foro Español de Pacientes. (Spanish Patient Forum). From 2004 he works in the Fundació Josep Laporte as Responsible for Training Area.

Remei Camps i Ferrer
Responsible for educational programmes

Graduated in Teaching by the UAB (1995) and degree in Multimedia Educational Material Design (UOC, 2000), degree in (Instructional Design of Online Training Actions (2004) and degree in (Psychopedagogical Bases for Diversity Awareness (2006). Specialized in teaching processes in e-learning, she has experience in the direction and coordination of e-learning projects. In 2012 she also earned a Masters degree in Medical Education (UAB, UB, UdL, URV, UdG).

She joins Fundació Doctor Robert in 2008, coordinating and advising in continuous training and postgraduated courses in health and life sciences. She also advises and monitors processes of design and implementation of online and blended learning strategies..

Sara Domènech Pou
Researcher on the field of cognition

Doctor in Psychology with Excellent "Cum Laude" by the University of Barcelona with the thesis "Application of a memory stimulation programme undergoing mild phase Alzheimer patients" and graduated in Education (specialization in therapeutics) by the University of Barcelona (1995). She has ample education and experience in cognitive stimulation programmes for Alzheimer patients and other dementias, woirking as responsible for the Memory Unit at Fundació ACE, Institut Català de Neurociències Aplicades (Barcelona, and collaborating in research projects, publications and oral communications about the topic in conferences and congresses.

Currently she works as researcher at the Institut de l'Envelliment of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, focusing her activity in cognition and Alzheimer's disease and other dementia, among other topics. She has taken part in several national and international projects about cognition, ageing and dementia, with several publications about the topic. She teaches Neuropsychology in the Masters Degree in Clinical Psychology and Health of the Universitat de Barcelona., in the Masters Degree in General Health Psychology (UB) and the Masters Degree in Neuroscience in the Institut Guttmann. She has also been working lately in several projects about ageing and ICT.

Xavier Rojano i Luque

Born in Barcelona in 1972, graduated in Medicine and Surgery in 1997 at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. Later he specialized in Preventive Medicine and Public Health at the Hospital Clinic of Barcelona. At this time he made the Master of Public Health organized by the Instituto Universitario de Salud Pública de Catalunya (2000) obtained the Postgraduate Diploma in Methodology and Evaluation of Quality Improvement Assistance, organized by the Foundation Avedis Donabedian (2001) and Master in Hospital Management and Health Services at the University of Barcelona (2002).

The 2002 after finishing a period of specialization, he starts working for the Center for AIDS Epidemiological Studies of Catalonia (CEESCAT), where he works on studies to determine which treatments are safe and effective for pregnant women in orfer to have children without HIV. In 2005 he began to work at the Institute of Aging at UAB, where he participated in studies related to the health of older people and what activities and interventions that allow them to maintain or improve their welfare, health and autonomy .

Marta Roqué i Fíguls

Graduated in Mathematics by the University of Barcelona in 1995. Since 2006 she weorks in the Institut del Envelliment giving statistical support to research projects, such as population health survey analysis or validation of a disability assessment instrument. She has authored systematic reviews about efficacy of health interventions, diagnostic methods precision and prognostic factors of community conditions. She has recognized experience in teaching and advising health professionals in matters of statistical analysis and research methodology.

He gives support to the research area of the Institut de l’Envelliment, where he has worked since 2003, through EC-funded proposal preparation, as well as technical and administrative project coordination


Enric Pineda i Traïd
Responsible for web site

Degree in Library Science by the Universitat de Barcelona (1999). Since 2008 he has the Chronic Disease Self-Management Program Master Training certification by the Stanford University. He joined the Fundació Josep Laporte in 2000, where he is responsible for technological development.

His duties include technological support on the Foundation's tasks, as well as managing its online resources. He has taught health professionals about tools for information research in health sciences, as well as informative activities for patients and citizens.

She joined Fundació Doctor Robert in 2001 as academic secretary and secretary for the UAB- Novartis Education and Research in Family Practice Chair. Responsible for the academic management of masters and courses in the area of primary care and since 2014 for the Escola Doctor Robert master courses.

Programme coordinator

She has developed her career in the field of education. She joined Fundació Doctor Robert in september 2000 as academic secretary. Responsible for academic management of masters, posgraduate courses, both in online and blended modalities, She also designs leaflets and posters for training activities.

Helena Garrigós Cabezas
Management secretary

In 1999 she joins Fundació Doctor Robert where she is in charge of the management secretariat and gives support to the areas of knowledge and chairs. Currently she's part of the administrative team of the Fundació Salut i Envelliment - UAB as Management Secretary.

Elisabet Masip Pesquer
Responsible for academical management - Patients' University

Graduated in Political Science by the Universitat Pompeu Fabra (1998). In 2007 she joins the Fundació Josep Laporte, where she manages the academical secretariat of emblematic projects such as the Patients' University and training programmes for health professionals. Since 2010 she carries out quality control tasks of the digital projects of the Foundation. She also gives support to research and communication activities. Since 2008 she has the Chronic Disease Self-Management Program Master Training certification by the Stanford University.
